Frequently Asked Questions:

- What styles of stained glass do you create (traditional, geometric, nature-inspired, etc.)?

I tend to float all over the place. My favorite pieces that I have made have been the koroks, magnolias, silhouette ravens, hobbit doors, and the hot dogs. Definitely the hot dogs.

- What sizes are your pieces available in?

The easiest sizes i can do are anything between 12"x24" and the inverse. Outside of that realm, say a 15" round panel, I would need to have it professionally printed. (My Silhouette machine can only go so wide)

- Are your pieces made with lead came or copper foil technique?

Copper foil. I plan to learn how to do lead came this summer and plan to start delving into the realm of windows.

- How long does it take to make a piece?

Typically? About a week. This is a loaded question and typically depends on my work schedule and my baby's sleep schedule. It could be shorter or it could be longer.

Custom Orders

- Do you take custom commissions?

Yes! They are encouraged and welcomed.

  - Can I request a specific color palette or design?

Of course!!

- How do I submit a custom order request?

Reach out to me through my contact page

- Do you require a deposit for custom work?

Yes. Typically 10% for smaller pieces/up to $100 for larger pieces that I need to get all new glass for.
The deposit is more so that I know that it's real and that I will get to it ASAP.

Pricing

- Why does handmade stained glass cost what it does?

There's a lot that goes into it and it's typically very expensive every step of the way. Glass sheets, solder, tools, time, etc.

- What factors affect the price of a piece (size, complexity, glass type)?

Typically it's the number of pieces a piece has. Anything bigger than 10" starts to factor in the size.

- Do you offer payment plans?

At this point, yes!!
I haven’t played around with it too much, but I plan to use a layaway system. I’ll create the piece as usual, and then I will wait until you’re able to finalize the payments so I can send it to you! The only case where this will be altered is something being made for an event like a wedding or something along those lines.

Care & Display

- How do I clean my stained glass piece?

Never use windex! Use a microfiber towel to clean the smudges and dust away!

- Can stained glass be displayed outdoors?

Yes! Just be aware that the solder lines can fade over time. They are wax sealed, but with enough time, anything can fade.

- How should I hang or mount my piece?

My #1 recommendation is with a nail above the window you’re planning on hanging the item. If it’s heavy, USE A NAIL FOR SURE. If it’s light, you could get away with a sturdy suction cup. If you ever need the chain or cord a certain length, let me know, and I can measure it out for you.

Shipping & Packaging

- How do you package stained glass to prevent damage during shipping?

I wrap it up tight, put a lot of padding in, do a shake test at home to make sure nothing is moving inside, and sent it on it’s way.
I’ve had ONE instance where my glass was damaged, but the box looked like it had been stepped on and smashed so…

- Do you ship internationally?

Yes, but you are expected to cover the full shipping fee. Due to past experiences, I will also choose a higher insurance coverage.

- What should I do if my piece arrives damaged?

Let me know and we will go about filing a case with the insurance coverage. We can discuss options like finding someone in your area to fix the piece for you or if it would be worth just doing refund or remaking the piece.

About the Process

- How is each piece made?

With love and care… lol. Yes but theres a lot.
The 5 big steps are:
1. Designing
2. Cutting
3. Grinding
4. Foiling
5. Soldering
5.a Cleaning and Patina

- Do you use recycled or specialty glass?

I use glass that is made in a few specific factories around the US. It’s all ethical as far as I’m aware. I use recycled glass in the sense that I use the same sheet of glass for as long as I can.

- Is each piece one-of-a-kind?

The commissions are. Some of the “mass-produced” items are one of a kind, but a lot of things I buy the pattern for.

- Do you sign or number your pieces?

No. I’m too scared to play around with an engraver. I should.

- Can you remake something once it’s out of stock?

Yes! Depending on whether I have enough of the material left, I might have a $10 added fee, but I’ll be making them on demand for the time being!

- Are your pieces handmade?

Yes. Absolutely everything is made by me!

- Do you make your own patterns?

For the most part, no. I typically buy patterns for commercial use, but for a commission, I’ll come up with a design that we’ll work on tweaking to your liking!

Events

- Do you sell to shops or galleries?

I haven’t yet, but I’m open to it! I have a friend I've discussed this with, but I haven't gotten to that point yet.

- Do you participate in craft fairs or markets?

Yes! I participate in events around the Charlotte area. I hope to be able to do more soon.

- Can I commission pieces for gifts or events?

I’m BEGGING you to do this. I’m working on a sign for a friend for her wedding and I want to do more!!
